ReThink Respite presentations for carers and service providers in the Shoalhaven

Dr Lyn Phillipson will be presenting at carers groups in Bay and Basin and Nowra at the end of April.

She will also hold a workshop for respite service providers on Nowra: 2.30pm to 4.30pm, Wednesday 27th April 2016 at Nowra Adult Day Care Centre, 39 Holloway Road, Nowra

“There is plenty of evidence to show that respite can sustain carers to continue in their caring role and support the person living with dementia to stay at home for longer. Respite should be affordable, reliable, flexible and tailored to meet the needs of people with dementia and their carers. It should be incorporated in the early stages of caring and as part of an ongoing plan for support and assistance,” said project leader, Dr Lyn Phillipson.

The ReThink Respite project has engaged carers, people living with dementia and local service providers.  It aims to improve carer knowledge of local respite services, promote positive attitudes and re-position respite, and provide practical and emotional support for service use.
